Native Grapes to Mallorca

The climate in Mallorca allows for a variety of grapes to be grown, creating a range of wines that can be wise, subtle, complex, and at the same time, full of energy and direct. There are about 1,100 hectares of planted vines on the island of Mallorca alone.Amongst the white vines you can find international grapes like Chardonnay, Macabeo, Malvasia, Moscatel, Riesling, Sauvignon blanc and Viognier. You can also find endemic varietals such as press White and Turn ros .

The native island grapes create beautifully distinct Mediterranean wines that could be compared to a Chardonnay. According to winemaker Toni Gelabert, the organoleptic profile of these autochthonous wines are great for pairing with food as well as for aging. Giró Ros is used to produce wines with a high level of alcohol, while Prensal Blanc is used as a blending grape to create lighter wines with lower acidity.
